In 1973, Banco di Napoli (BN) acquired a stake in Luxembourg Italian Bank SA together with fellow shareholders Banco di Sicilia, Monte dei Paschi di Siena and Istituto Bancario San Paolo. In 1981, BN increased its stake to 100%, creating Banco di Napoli International SA (Luxembourg).
In the 1990s the bank expanded, with offices being opened in Esch-sur-Alzette, Differdange, Dudelange, and inside European Community buildings and the Luxembourg Railway Station.
