The KMB Bank was founded in 1992 by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
In 1998, KMB Bank began focusing on financing Russia's small- and medium-sized enterprises in order to promote their growth. It became part of the Banca Intesa Group in 2005, when the Italian group, wanting to expand its presence in the Russian market, acquired control of it.
In 2010 KMB Bank merged with Zao Banca Intesa, changing the bank's name to Banca Intesa.
