Established in 1986, the Warsaw-based Bank Rozwoju Exportu (BRE) was one of Poland's largest commercial banks.
In 1997, given BRE's profitable operational relationship and partnership agreement with Commerzbank, which held a 48% stake in it, Banca Commerciale Italiana itself acquired a 3.8% stake in the bank through Banca Commerciale Italiana Holding International SA.
