Founded in Lugano in 1873, Banca della Svizzera Italiana (BSI)'s objective was to give impetus to entrepreneurial initiatives and large public works projects. Well-established in the country with an array of branches (including in Locarno, Bellinzona, Chiasso, Zurich and St. Moritz), the bank set up an office in Nassau in 1969 and subsequently, in 1976, in Caracas and Hong Kong as well.
BCI transferred its stake to the Irving Trust Co. in 1983.
