TIMELINE 2005: Stake in Upi Banka acquired by Banca Intesa
After a failed attempt in the 1921-24 period to create a Yugoslavian bank and set up a branch in Sarajevo, Banca Commerciale Italiana (BCI) began monitoring Bosnian territory through its Croatian subsidiary, Hrvaska Banka, which opened a branch in Sarajevo itself; that office would close in 1943. In 2005 Banca Intesa came to Bosnia and Herzegovina thanks to its acquisition of a stake in Upi Banka, later (in 2008) renamed Intesa Sanpaolo Banka Bosna i Hercegovina (ISP BiH). In 2015, Croatia's Privredna Banka Zagreb, a member of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group, acquired 94.94% of ISP BiH. |
