The Foreign Trade Bank of Iran (Fortrabank) was founded in June 1960, taking over the assets and liabilities of the Export Development Bank of Tehran. Banca Commerciale Italiana acquired a 14.5% stake in Fortrabank in the same year, with the remaining shares split between Bank Melli Iran (51%), Bank of America International (20%) and Deutsche Bank (14.5%).
