2001: Full control of Všeobecná úverová banka (VÚB Banka) taken by IntesaBci.

In 2001, as part of its plan to expand into Central and Eastern Europe, where it already held interests in PBZ (Zagreb) and CIB Bank (Budapest), IntesaBci acquired a controlling stake in Vseobecna uverova Banka, after the process of the privatization of state enterprises.
VÚB Banka has continued to operate over time, as part of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group.
