1981: Sanpaolo Bank Bahamas, subsidiary of Istituto Bancario San Paolo, founded.

The Commonwealth of the Bahamas (Bahama Islands) is an arcipelagic state in Central America and the Caribbean, in the North Atlantic Ocean east of Florida. Since the country gained full independence from the United Kingdom in 1973, it has become well-known for its special tax regime.
Istituto Bancario San Paolo set up its Bahamian subsidiary, Sanpaolo Bank Bahamas, in 1981.
Banca Commerciale Italiana (BCI) also operated in Nassau through a branch of its subsidiary, Banca Commerciale Italiana (Suisse).
